SASSA & SRD Status Messages
What common statuses mean before you panic.
Millions of South Africans rely on grants and SRD. Use this short guide to stay on official channels and understand exactly what your status means before trying to re-apply.
Common SRD Statuses Explained
Before you pay anyone to 'fix' your profile, understand what the system is telling you.
Pending
SASSA is currently cross-checking your ID with Home Affairs and your income with SARS/UIF. Wait patiently.
Declined
You failed the means test. Usually means your bank account saw an inflow of more than R624 this month.
Approved
You passed the means test, but payment may still take a few days to generate.
Security Best Practices
Protect yourself from grant fraud and phishing.
Start on the official portal
Log in or check status only via links from sassa.gov.za or srd.sassa.gov.za. If the URL looks wrong, stop.
Never share your PIN
SASSA will never call you, SMS you, or WhatsApp you asking for your bank PIN or portal password.
Report suspicious links
If you receive an SMS saying 'Click here to claim your R700 grant', it is a scam. Report it to the fraud hotline.
Official Sources
Verified portals for final submission and validation.
